YouTube wants to be your go-to place for short-form video with Shorts updates

YouTube is introducing new features for Shorts to compete directly with TikTok.

The Collab feature allows users to record a Short in a side-by-side format with other YouTube or Shorts videos – a replica of TikTok’s Duet functionality.

YouTube is also rolling out a Q&A sticker to prompt direct responses from Shorts viewers, and introducing Shorts live streaming, similar to TikTok LIVE.

But TikTok isn’t the only area of inspiration. YouTube also appears to be replicating Instagram’s Template feature for Reels, whereby users instantly use any Short as an audio and effects template when creating a video of their own.

How this helps you make better YouTube Shorts:

By leveraging the new Collab and Q&A features, brands can collaborate with creators to produce engaging Shorts or gather customer feedback, expanding reach and fostering community.

Vertical video live streaming gives YouTube parity with Instagram and TikTok. When someone taps into a live stream, they’ll be placed into a scrollable feed of other live videos, boosting discoverability.

And the Templates option is a time-saving feature for jumping on audio-based video trends.
